A 4 player slugfest in the dark where you're a fish controlling a tank!
Project duration: 48 hours
Tools Used: Unity, Visual Studio, Autodesk Maya, C#
Team Size: 4 individuals
Design Challenge: Create a multiplayer game in 48 hours with the theme: you can't see everything!!
My Role: Game Designer/Technical Visual Artist
I helped design and implement the main mechanics of the game.
I also modeled, scripted and implemented all background visual elements in-game to polish up the game for the end of the Jam.
A Design Process for a Game Jam under 48 hours!!
1. Think about the Design Challenge:
The challenge for a game jam to is always come up with something fun to play in a very short time.
With some experience at various game jams before, we decided to focus on design first.
Start small and make quick changes fast!
Always start on paper!!
Design Challenge: You can't see everything!
2. Make the simplest prototype! Test and Reiterate!
We started with only building the minimum of what we need to test out our core gameplay.
This involved scripting and implementing only what was necessary: character controller, moving platforms and death and win states.
Then we playtest to see if elements of the game need refinement and fine-tuning.
We found the previous level design and platforms were too punishing and needed a long wait before players can get to the center of the hill.
We playtest some more and fine-tune several more variables such as movement speed, player respawn timer and time take t win the game.
Once the game has a pretty good feeling we then use the remaining time to polish and spruce everything up.
3: Polish things up if you have time!!
4: Have fun and share!!!
